Cultural Photography is the art of taking photos to tell about people, daily life, architecture, and anything that makes a people unique. It's about life!

What I love about cultural photography is that every picture is a story.

I'll be presenting tips and other ideas I've learned through the years on how to achieve meaningful photographs reflecting the culture of a place.

Derek Ford

Just a bozo with a camera happily wallowing in mediocrity and obscurity.

Derek was a member of our Micron Photo Club for another of years before he left Micron Last year. An observation of many in the club was how his photography had improved over the years. We saw him transform from a GWC (Guy with Camera) into his self-proclaimed JBC (Just a Bozo with a Camera). But he is much more than that. His travel Photography encompasses much of the northwest. He also has a very unique approach to abstract photography. His Flicker site is great eclectic example of his capabilities. https://www.flickr.com/photos/185612761@N02/

For this months presentation Chris Clark. Chris got involved in his older daughter’s ballet dance company as a volunteer photographer, which then turned into a side-business of selling the images to the families. From there it grew into working with several dance companies, taking headshots, poster pictures, performance pictures, class portraits, senior pictures, weddings, backstage pictures and individual dance-themed portraits on location and in studios. Chris ended up working with the some dance companies continuously for about 15 years – but he still can’t dance! When Chris moved to Boise last June, he had at least temporarily paused his photography business while he settle into the area.

I believe the most interesting photographs are about people. My favorite images reveal something about a person and have an emotional impact.

I am a part-time photographer specializing in high school senior and dance photography. I've been taking pictures since joining my junior high yearbook photography staff and setting up my own darkroom in the basement of my childhood home. My dance specialty began by photographing my daughters in ballet class and performances and has continued now for over 10 years. For whatever reason, I do have an ability to capture dance images right at the peak of the movement; which may be because of the connection dance has with music and timing since I play the guitar. Or it could just be because I've practiced dance photography so much!
